Current responsibilities in extension and applied research include working with specialty commercial vegetables, except potatoes, (mostly direct market), value added vegetable types and products, vegetable bedding plants and consumer/home horticulture in vegetables (especially through Master Gardeners).

"Specialty commercial vegetables" refers to types and varieties of vegetables (also herbs and edible flowers) that are somewhat unique compared to the major wholesale or processing ones now grown. They are mostly sold by direct marketers through their market stand, farmers markets, to restaurant chefs or their suppliers, as U-pick items, etc.

Research Interests:

Seeks short-term industrial, state, and regional support grants to do cooperative, adaptive research in such areas as specialty vegetable crops and varieties, row covers, high tunnels plus water pillows, no-till and/or high bio-mass cover crops, varietal screening, soil nutrition, or wherever a special need arises with clientele.
